What we supply

Vulkem traffic coating systemsBase coat, intermediate, and top coat, with aggregate broadcast for slip resistance. Pedestrian and vehicular grades.
Primers and detail sealantCrack and joint treatment before the system goes down.
AggregateGraded for the traffic and the finish.

By orderA traffic system is bought by the deck, not by the pail — the coverage rate, the number of coats, and the aggregate all come off the spec. So it is ordered against your deck, with the lead time quoted before you commit. Send the square footage and the system.

02

If the deck is buried instead of driven on

A plaza deck with topping and pavers over it is not a traffic coating job — it is a hot-applied membrane job, and that is TREMproof 6100, which is on the floor. The dividing line is whether tires and boots touch the coating or touch something laid on top of it. See below-grade waterproofing.

03

Pedestrian or vehicular

Vehicular systems are thicker, tougher, and cost more, because a tyre turning in place does more damage to a coating than a thousand people walking. Balconies and plaza decks take pedestrian; parking decks and drive lanes take vehicular; the turning areas and ramps in a parking structure often take a heavier build than the flat runs. The spec will say, and the difference matters.

04

Freeze-thaw and de-icing salt

A Colorado parking deck goes through a hundred freeze-thaw cycles a winter and gets salt dragged onto it every day. That is the environment these systems exist for — and it is why a deck coating that gets skipped or thinned shows up as spalled concrete and rusted rebar in five years rather than fifteen.

Common questions

Ask the counter.

How much coverage per pail?+

Depends on the coat and the mil thickness. Send the deck square footage and the system and we will break it out by coat.

Can it go down in the cold?+

There is a minimum substrate temperature and it matters. Tell us the schedule — a deck coated too cold fails at the bond line.
