Where they go

Every 30 feet on a long run of drywall, at changes in framing, and wherever the structure has its own expansion joint. Ceilings too. The joint gets set before the board is finished, the tape strip pulls after, and the wall moves at the joint instead of through the finish. Skip them and the callback comes with the first winter.

Common questions

Ask the counter.

Vinyl or zinc?+

Vinyl for most interior work. Zinc where the spec calls for it or where the joint is in a wet area.

Does a control joint break the fire rating?+

It can. Rated assemblies need a fire-rated joint detail — backing and sealant behind the joint. Send us the wall type and we will pull the right one.
