Equivalent. A 20-gauge EQ stud is thinner steel with a higher yield strength and a stiffened profile, engineered to perform like a conventional 20-gauge in a non-load-bearing wall. It is lighter, it is cheaper, and it is what the trade uses for partitions now. It is not a structural stud, and the stamp on the flange says which it is.

Common questions
Twenty-gauge EQ has replaced it on the rack. It is stiffer at about the same price. If a spec calls for 25 specifically, we can get it.
No. Anything carrying load is on the structural page — 18 and 16 gauge.
Depends on spacing and deflection limit. The manufacturer's limiting-height table has the answer; text us the wall height and spacing and we will read it for you.
