Why lightweight
About a fifth lighter than standard half-inch. On a ceiling it is the difference between two hangers and three, and at the end of a day it is the difference in how the crew feels. Same finish, same fasteners, same compound.

Ask the counter.
Can I use lightweight on a ceiling at 24" spacing?+
Check the manufacturer's span table. Most 1/2" lightweight is rated for 24" on ceilings when hung perpendicular to framing; the label on the board says so.
Do you stock 5/8" regular, non-rated?+
Not as a separate item. Most crews use 5/8" Type X where they want 5/8" — it is on the rack and it costs about the same.
